I was originally on Warfarin after having a stroke, but a few years later I asked my GP if there was a better alternative. He seemed very pleased to suggest me taking Eliquis and I have been taking this for about 12 years now. Recently, I have had pains and stiffness in my legs, so I feared I was developing arthritis. X-rays showed I had osteo arthritis in my hips. but it was less severe in my knees. I was referred to a Physiotherapist for the pain. First of all, she was puzzled because the pains around my knee presented like Sciatica, but the pain started below my knees and travelled up towards my thigh, unlike the usual way that Sciatica pain travels down the leg from the lower back. I followed the program of exercises she advised but the pain around my knees became much worse and I experienced a lot of stiffness. She recommended that I have an MRI scan, as she felt the pain may be neurological resulting from the stroke. I'm still waiting for an appointment for the scan and, meanwhile I struggle to get up out of a chair, or out of bed, and my knee frequently gives way. It has got so bad that my husband bought me a mobility scooter to help me get out and about. I was so relieved to read that Eliquis might have caused me all this pain, so I shall be having a discussion with my GP soon!
