Starting Tymlos..
I tend to overreact to meds and often get the side effects. I do better if I start with a baby dose and work my way up. What would be a good dose to start with? I will have the first dose in the doctor’s office. Do I understand correctly that this is done with how many clicks you give it?
I already have heart palpitations and take a beta blocker for that , starting half a year ago. I am thinking I can up the dose of the beta blocker if I get increased palpitations. Anyone else given a beta blocker to manage palpitations?
One last thing. My calcium level was abnormally high, despite my hyperthyroid numbers being normal. The Dr ordered additional tests to rule out some other things and I haven’t heard back yet. Has anyone else had high calcium without being on a med that caused it? I can’t start the Tymlos till this gets sorted out .

You are a rock star on this site! I am moving back to .60 for Tymlos. I worked up to the 0.80 and just cannot take the pounding heart any longer. My recent labs came back really high in calcium as well. Even the NIH states that with 0.60 there are notable gains, just as you had previously stated. When I told my rheumatologist that I was using a lower dose he seemed like he had never heard such a thing as working up through the dosages to allow the body to adjust. I feel like I am better informed than those who are treating me just from the forum and doing my own independent research. Thank you for giving me the confidence to question the medical community even when they are clearly irritated 😣!

My calcium levels have gone way up on Tymlos. However; I have had a history of low kidney function to begin with. I requested the blood panel for calcium; my doctor didn’t even consider it. Glad to see your doctor is ordering up additional tests to rule out anything else. Tymlos is an effective treatment so I do hope it works out that you can take it, even at a lower dose.
Thank you ! May I ask how high your calcium went up to and if there was anything you needed to do about the high calcium..? I still do not know my calcium number. I peaked at the lab patient portal and saw that I did not have abnormal findings for multiple myeloma or for autoimmune disorder. Phew, so far. So I’m still waiting for all the tests to come back and to hear from my doctor..
Fortunately my doctor already agreed to let me start Tymlos with a mini dose ( maybe 2 clicks, I’m thinking ). He did not seem to know about doing that , but was agreeable. I am grateful for this group, so that I knew it was possible to adjust the dose..
@daisylou
My last lab showed calcium was 11.2; my doctor has not contacted me yet to see if there are any adjustments to be made. I do have an autoimmune issue, chronic anemia and stage 1 kidney disease. It gets very tricky when you factor in other health issues. Isn’t it amazing how these doctors administer medications they know so little about themselves? If it wasn’t for @windyshores here on the forum I would have had no idea I could adjust the dosage. Hope Tymlos works out for you!
