What do you think of the option of not using the carbon filter since it sits on the bottom, thereby eliminating the problem of possible MAC build-up in the filter and needing to replace?

@mholm, doesn’t the carbon filter in the screw on base also help to position the larger filter? The smaller filter (carbon) also serves a useful function to clean the water. The larger filter is the first pass for the water. That is the one which filters out the NTM. By the time it reaches the carbon filter below it, the NTM has already been filtered out of the water, so I don’t think there is a need to worry.
