Has anyone else had surgical clips left in their neck after surgery

Surgical clips or staples are biologically inert. They can be left inside the body where a possible bleed might result using sutures. It’s not uncommon.

Had TORS and neck dissection in late June. Didn’t know I had the staples until I was scheduled for an extra powerful MRI for a separate issue and they told me they couldn’t do it because of the risk of them either overheating or moving. Regular MRI is fine.

The thyroid was removed. The surgeon left the surgical clips. I can see the way I described that the 1st time was confusing. That happened 30 years or so in the past.

Did she ever have any issues with the clips being left in? My doctor never told me he left mine in, I’m kind of upset. I’m not having any complications but it’s a foreign body in my neck.

We are not sure. My wife has had a lot of issues normalizing energy over the years since her surgery. She was put on adderol to help her stay active. I do not think she could function without it. We are not sure if the staples are the cause. Whenever a doctor sees a neck ex ray they are surprised to see the staples. I do not think it is a common practice to keep them in.

Most surgical clips are paramagnetic. Usually made out of titanium.
I've had mine for 13 years after a total hysterectomy due to an aggressive cervical cancer. Never had a problem with MRI's, 3T MRI's, PET scans or CT's.
However, brain aneurism clips or surgical 'marker' clips are usually made of a different material and can be effected by an MRI. So always check what kind of clips you have.
Hope this helps anyone!

I've had my clips for about 13 years now. Never had a problem. Most surgical clips are supposed to be left behind. That's why most are made out of titanium

The surgical clips are left in to hold the tissue together in radical surgery. Never been a concern

Hello,
I have surgical clips left in my neck from neck dissection and TORS surgery. I asked my surgeon about exercising (lifting weights) when I was several months post surgery and he said there are no issues with the clips being present.

I have a clip left in jugular after right neck dissection. I am only a few days out. When I had my thyroidectomy and central neck dissection, I did not have any clips. During ultrasound, the tech said the nodule resembled a clip (shape and size).

Yes I had a wide field tonsillectomy and they used titanium clips on the lingual arteries they cut. My surgeon said titanium would not interfere with any scans.

Hi
Oh no! What next.
That is why radiology asks if I had clips, staples etc in me or had them.
I have 2 for gall bladder removal -it had disintegrated.
Plate and screws in my right shower, I could have something in my right shoulder.
That's it I think.
I'm glad that it was discovered.

Take care. I've heard of swabs left but clips no. In UK I was working with a lady who had a neck cut and clipped. Gee looked horrid. My Thyroidectomy leaves a fine scar I used aloe vera only on it and water.
