Plantar Fasciitis: How did you get rid of it?

Posted by peggyn @peggyn, Jun 22, 2019

I don't know if this is where this should be posted, but I have a few questions. Almost seems like it goes hand and hand with neuropathy.

Have you had it and how did you get rid of it. I have done 2 injections.. I use ice and ice bottle almost nightly, I've massaged, I've purchased special shoes, and I've worn compression sleeves, plus I've done the night splint.. It just won't go away. I know it's because of the atrophy on that calf.
If you've had it please share what worked for you to get rid of it.

rickdemaria, WHEW! My heart goest out. PF is painful. I tried everything for mine. Injections directly into the heel (I do not reommend as it can cause more damage). Oral steroids for a month.....after I finished the course, PF came right back.

I also don't recommend the injections into the sides of the heel where they go in to the exact site and inject you. Personally, it didn't last long at all.

Here's what helped the most:

1) Not wearing flip flops and wearing a good support shoe with an orthotic made by podiatrist.
2) Doing the foot stretches for PF. You can find these on Youtube.
3) Freezing a bottle of water then rolling your foot over it for a few minutes.
4) Volatern gel onto the bottom to the heel of the foot.
5) Epsom salt foot baths.
6) Lose any extra weight as extra pounds are hard on the feet.

Strangely, when I get my knees injected with cortistone for arthritis, it's systemic and stops my PF when I am in a flare.

I wish you the best. The last flare lasted over a year. Praying for relief for you.

Hello. This is a serious question, because I don't know the answer. Is Plantar Fasciitis the same as my injury? I will be 63 next week and never had problems with my feet. I'm 170 lbs, so not overweight. I was under the impression that PF is a condition where the Plantar Fascia is inflamed because of some condition and not an injury. My injury happened while playing racquetball. I felt it immediately and needed help to get to my car. I was on crutches for 10 days before I could put weight on that foot. Anyway, is this injury and PF the same thing?

Rickdemaria, Yes, PF can be caused by an injury. PF is inflammation of the fibrous tissue along the bottom of the foot that connects to the heel.

Could you have caused PF inflammation from an injury? Personally, I think so. I honestly cannot say the injury and PF are the same thing. Only your doctor could answer this.

I am simple, so here's another way of looking at it. I have allergies. If I have been exposed to a lot of dust/dust mites (my worst allergens) I can get a sinus infection. Allergies and sinus infection are not the same thing, but, the allergen caused the sinus infection. I hope that makes sense.

I do know from my on personal experience, the feet being the farthest away from the heart, takes a while to heal. We also, as we age, lose the fat pads in the bottom of our feet, so our feet are not as protected from things as we age. Don't you just love that "Age" word? LOL.

It can be caused by walking a certain way, obesity and mine was brought on years ago by wearing flip flops one summer on a hard floor (this was when I was young! LOL).

Praying for you to get better. I empathize as I know how painful this is. Blessings....

Thank you very much! I have to agree with you on your take on this. Thank you for your well wishes, too. I'm being as careful as I can. As you mentioned, don't go barefoot, wear good shoes, and be patient. I don't believe I will go back to racquetball, which caused the injury. I have gone golfing again recently and I avoid movements that would stretch my foot. Again, thank you for your responses! Have a great year!

rickdemaria, Honored to help.

Have you tried the fascia stretches? I do believe they help. If they cause more pain, then stop doing them. I didn't see the one on here where you simply hold your foot out and gently pull only the BIG toe, pull back release and repeat gently. You can feel the pull on the fascia. There are probably more of these on Youtube. Do ONLY what you feel comfortable with.

It takes patience with PF. I felt like I was walking on glass when I would get up in the mornings and after sitting for a while and standing up again. I had to walk through the pain.
OUCH! Hurt like the dickens! Blessings & Prayers....

At this point, stretches are a bit of a stretch for me. Ha Ha! I went to one of our fitness centers yesterday. We have the best selection of exercise equipment. We decided to also cruise the outdoor walking path. Afterwards, my foot was very sore. It will be 6 months on Feb. 1st since the injury. Sure looks like it will be a lot more time. Once I feel the time is right, I will do stretches and exercises to make my foot stronger. In the meantime, I am celebrating my 63rd birthday today!

Happy Birthday!!! Hope it’s awesome and your foot recovers well. 🥳

Sometimes, mine feel great, but I protect them from too much stress or pressure, because a flare is always looming for me. I wear good shoes
