My podiatrist didn’t do much - just gave me a list of shoe brands to try. She didn’t recommend barefoot shoes - said I needed cushioning and arch support. I’m going to try them anyway, after my pain goes away. The gait physical therapist actually helped a lot more. She spent a lot of time testing inserts and adjusting them with different pads in different places, using a foot mapping pressure sensor. My insurance only paid for a few visits, though. While the PT helped a lot, I wish I could have seen her more. I still have plantar fasciitis two months later - going on nine months, now. Interestingly, the pain moves around a bit.

fyi: I had plantar fasciitis a number of years ago and went for months of PT and did different foot stretching exercises. The exercise that finally worked was nerve flossing - google nerve flossing for plantar fasciitis if you haven't tried it.
