@jan64, I'm definitely not a poster child for good eating but I have been making head way and have lost some weight and kept if off for the past 5 or so years. My cholesterol numbers were always borderline and my several different primary care docs were always trying to get me to take statins and I always chose not to because of my neuropathy. I don't have pain but do have the numbness associated symptoms. My new PCP shared some statin alternative information to try and help me but not sure if you may already have seen it. I attached of PDF of what was given to me in case it might be helpful.

Thanks, John. I have not tried the plant stanols yet. I already eat oatmeal or oat bran every day along with all of the other dietary suggestions, though I use olive oil very sparingly. My neuropathy is painful, and I want to avoid the statins. Since my family history of stroke and heart disease is high, I will probably try the Zetia .
