Orgovyx and zytiga side effects

Posted by larryf954 @larryf954, Oct 19, 2024

I’m a 69 year old, who finished IMRT 5 weeks go and I’ve been on these ADT medications for 4 months now. This last week my fatigue has increased significantly. I’m not surprised but I’m disappointed as I was feeling better after 3 weeks of post radiation difficulty. If you had a similar treatment regiment I’d appreciate it if you would share your side effect experience during the 4-6 month time frame. Wondering what I should expect over the next few months. Thanks

I will ask my Dr about an increase to my prednisone dosage. Thanks

He agreed and increased the dosage from 5 to 7.5 mg

Not sure how much longer I’ll be able to do it, hence the initial question I posed which was should I expect it to worsen. My takeaway from the posts here is it will get more difficult. Thanks.

I reread your post, Just know I'm standing here waving poms poms to you to say you can do this. Of course I understand it is not easy, we just have to keep going forward. I'm on forever meds, I get knocked down all the time and then I have good days. That smart lady is going to start charging me for using her quote.." We are all in the same boat, but it's not the Titanic." I wish you the best on your journey, you can do this. Best to all.

In case no one saw my reply to myself. My Dr agreed to increase the prednisone dose to 7.5. - 5 in the morning and 2.5 in the early afternoon. So far it’s helping me but at the same time it’s disrupting my sleep so I’m not sure I will maintain the extra 2.5 mg.

This just shows how experiences differ from one person to the next. I told somebody I’ve been working with to speak to his doctor to increase his prednisone, because he was having terrible problems with fatigue, waking up in the morning and having to go back to sleep for hours.

Doctor told him to increase from 5 mg to 10 mg. he still had problems in the morning. He started taking the second pill later, early evening, and that helped, but he had no problem sleeping.

Most likely not the best decision.
Consult for all other considerations.
Best wishes to you!

I was prescribed Triptorelin (Decapeptyl) in Belgium and another centre also prescribed it but I wanted Orgovyx and so got that instead.
Orgovyx was a bit new here (Nov 2023) so some centres were not so keen on using it.

Triptorelin and Leuprolide seem very similar for efficiency and side effects, Triptorelin having a slight edge in T suppresion from a study I saw.

I am to have my first injection of Triptorelin (Decapeptyl) next week following two weeks of Casodex. I asked about Orgovyx but there seemed to be no other option. Interesting that you are in Belgium and I am here in France.

Wondering if anyone else has experience of this option?

I have found constipation is quite common when taking prostate cancer drugs, not just Orgovyx.

I’ve been been taking three senna and two colace twice a day for a few years to offset the constipation. Sometimes I even need to take MiraLAX, but not very often.

Stopping Orgovyx could result in you having your cancer come back very quickly. You’ll get the same results with Lupron or Eligard. It’s just something you have to live with, with prostate cancer drugs.

The NCCN standard calls for you to be on ADT for six months, not four.

Is that Sennacot you mention? Myself,Lupron and Abiratone with Prednisone and suffer from major constipation. Need quarts of prune juice and senna to help, but both take time 12 hours to work. Metamucil at times may or may not work. Causes head aches and constant insomnia too, I feel. BM"s maybe once or twice a week if lucky. Therapy for PC really sucks big time as to SE's. Been through the grinder since diagnosis at 71 2/2019 RP ,RT, salvage, Lupron. Quit first round 2/2022 of this nasty stuff then quit second sesson 2/2025 both due to SE's Still taking Abiratone and Prednisone and hoping SE's fade as Lupron lreaves my system Any feedback on constipation issues most welcome.
Thanks,

I was taking Lupron, Prednisone and abiraterone for 2 1/2 years. Yes, I had constipation so I took three senna and two colace twice a day and it seemed to resolve it. Once in a while, I may use MiraLAX, but that is very seldom.

Colace contains docusate sodium a stool softener.

Senokot Seems to be a brand name for a senna product Since it just uses the senna plant you can buy senna generic’s cheaper.

Have you tried taking straight Psyllium husks instead of Metamucil? 1/2 tsp daily in the morning. 1 table spoon sets me too free. Something to try for bulk,
