Tymlos: Anyone else have heart palpitations?

Posted by salpert @salpert, Mar 23, 2020

I am on Tymlos and have a concerning side effect. My heart pounds rapidly right after the injection for 30 minutes after the injection. Is this safe for my heart?

I started Tymlos at 80 mcg. My Heart was POUNDING out of my chest and hurt. I called the nurse for tymlos who told me to drink more water and call the Dr. Water did not help. Had to have a bunch of cardiac tests, stress, US, wearing monitor for a month. Results: heart fine. Found this site and Windyshores suggestion of lowering the dose was the answer. I started over at 20 for a week, then 30 etc. I am up to 70 and I still get the palpatations but not the pounding of my heart. I upped Tymlos after 6 months to 80 mcg and my heart started to pound again, so I'm staying at 70.
I think you are the 3rd person who has asked about this since Ive been on this site, so I think it must be pretty rare.

I have a history of intermittent SVT's, I take a low-dose beta blocker every night to combat this. Wondering if I should just automatically start with a lower dose of Tymlos and ramp up rather than jump right into 80. Has anyone tried it this way? I really don't want to start dealing with the SVT's again as they were finally under control.

@amandahkj yes, same. Started 1/4 dose Tymlos and worked my way up over several weeks. I am one year in. Had to add 1/2 tablet beta blocker in morning a few months ago for palpitations Not sure if related to Tymlos or stress.

Try coconut water - 3-4 cups throughout the day- to manage the heart poounding. It worked for me although i had to restart at one click and slowly build as my body got used to the medicince. It took 3 months to get to 8 clicks. I atayed on coconumt water for about 9 months as my body adjusted.
I Bought organic cocnut water bu the case!! Hope this helps.

@amandahkj I have a long history with AFIB and SVT and take medication as well. I worked up to full dose over time and still get palpitations and faster heartbeats for a little while but expect it now.
The fast heartbeat is one of the common side effects that is noted on the Tymlos information sheet, and is NOT rare at all, apparently.
