High Calcium level questions, not from meds

Posted by daisylou @daisylou, 1 day ago

I have to postpone starting Tymlos because my calcium level was too high. I have had a high calcium number before, but never over the cutoff like now. I don't know the exact number. My hyperthyroid numbers were normal, so the doctor ran additional blood tests to check for some other problems . Ugh. Has anyone else had anything like this? Where there is a high calcium that was not from a med and not from hyperthyroid problems? I am trying not to worry....

daisylou, normal parathyroid levels with high calcium levels usually indicates hyperparathyroidism. It is difficult to diagnose. I would want imaging of the parathyroid.

I had hyper parathyroid issues and it took a long time to diagnose. It was almost a year, in that time I finally had a bone scan and was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I also had to have surgery. It sounds very likely that you have Hyperparathyroidism. I'm not doctor but my situation was very similar.

Thank you for this helpful information. Good to know it. Is treatable, if that’s what I have
