Any suggestions for the wife on how to support my husband?

Hi everyone, sadly we are now part of this group. I am looking for suggestions to help and support my husband through an upcoming prostatectomy. What did your significant other do -or you wish she would have done- to support you?

They told you, the tertiary pattern was five. Does he still have a Gleason seven After examining his full prostate? If not, did they tell you what his Gleason score was now?

The fatigue after surgery is not normal. Did they put them on ADT? Is he on Zytiga, that could explain fatigue issue. I was working full-time six days after surgery, No fatigue at all.

When they say lymph node positive, They did remove it, right? If the PSA isn’t really low, then you do want a PSMA test again.

Yes Gleason 7. He has not started anything yet as far as hormone therapy. They removed multiple lymph nodes based on the PETscan. One was positive out of multiples taken out but of course couldn’t get them all so may be positive ones still buried in there. Guess we wait for that first new PSA test 🤞
Thanks for the input

Thank you so much for your posts. My husband will have prosectomy surgery at Mayo Phoenix Hospital next week. The Care Team has been amazing- so communicative, kind and supportive. We have been together 50 years and have always had excellent health, so this is new for us. He's 71 and very active and my concern is that he'll want to do too much too soon after surgery. We live 2 hours away and will be staying down in the area a couple of nights after the surgery before driving home. All of your comments have encouraged me and I'm so grateful.

Keeping them from doing too much is a challenge. Once the catheter was out he started feeling better and wanted to increase our little walks. He just physically can’t do much & gets overtired.
We also stayed overnight after surgery and drove home (2hrs also) at daybreak. I made some homemade soups & froze them so I’d have a quick meal ready.
This site has been very helpful & supportive. Best Wishes!

Going back a bit, but she prepared nutrient dense drinks and meals and kept me away from "comfort" foods.
The single most helpful decision she made was to order (rent) a lounger that lifted me up and down. We had it for a month and the first two weeks it was a treat to be able to get up and down without help from people.
She allowed me to move about including sitting outside in the sun everyday even though she was worried.

Blessings and good fortune moving forward!
Ken
