Has anyone out there had a successful fourth TKR revision

Posted by pschoettle @pschoettle, Dec 28, 2024

My husband had a TKR 9 years ago and has had to have three revisions for Aseptic loosening. After the third revision, he got an infection and had debridement/washout and six months of antibiotics. The infection came back after coming off the antibiotics. One surgeon is suggesting trying again with a two stage revision, and two others indicate this likely won't be successful due to the infection and bone loss. In which case, an above the knee amputation would be his next option. My husband is holding out hope of another revision but it seems unlikely to be successful.

You might think about alternative and holistic methods now.
You can’t loose more.
I remember when my husband was so sick, we were working with leeches, they are so wonderful animals.
One to three on top of the location and one on top of the liver.
They suck all the bad stuff out and give their serum out, it’s like a natural antibiotic and healing secret.
Additional they thin your blood at the area where they work.
Don’t be afraid, it will blood a lot!!!
That’s what we want, getting all the bad stuff out and clean that area so it can heal again.
That’s our experience but there are more ways to heal.
And I am not saying this is the solution but it saved my husbands health issues until today, when no doctor could help him anymore and after a lot of surgeries.
Good luck for you, I am praying that you find a good solution.

I’ve had multiple TKRs. My first attempt at antibiotic therapy failed as the prosthetic was still in place. Once it was removed and a temporary plastic spacer was in place the antibiotics worked, although it was a long six month process waiting to be sure the infection was gone before a new permanent prosthetic could be put in.

A friend is going through same, slow process. Hang in there.

I have had 3 revisions on each leg. Getting ready to have another on left leg due to loosening. Have had 1 infection the rest were from loosening. Can't decide whether I should go to Mayo Clinic or not. Are they really better? Sorry for your husband, hope you have gotten several opinions
