Anastrozole experience: Any tips for managing side effects?

Posted by jessicanell @jessicanell, Sep 21, 2023

I’m about to start at 52. I don’t know if I’m in menopause bc I took hrt before being diagnosed w early stage bc. My labs say I am. And since stopping hrt no periods.

I hear about all the menopause symptoms it comes with including joint pain. Do any of you find it ok?

I heard Claritin can help w joint pain. Any other tips?

I’m getting a bone density scan before starting. Tell me your experiences please 🙏

Thank you

You are amazing! You're fighting a very difficult fight and doing it with such grace. I am currently on Anastrazole for 4 years with another 6 to go. I had a double mastectomy with lymph node removal on one side. Did not have Chemotherapy (God bless you) but radiation for 4 weeks. I agree with the fact that some people react to or have less complications from drugs. I also admire the fact that you are in tune to your body and know what is causing negative reactions. You are an inspiration to me!

I wish you the best🌺

I have been on it for a couple months now. Only a slight increase in hot flashes. Maybe causing some insomnia but that could be my anxiety over all the tests!!! Otherwise it really has been very tolerable. I was also on letrozole for 7 yrs without any physical issues. I am on round 2 of cancer. One big thing they never mention is your sex drive. Mine went away. My husband and I call these drugs the anti sex drugs. NY times did an excellent article on this a couple years ago. Why this isn’t discussed more is beyond me.
