Osteoporosis medication continuity?

I was 51 when I started on HRT. My doctor prescribed Estrogel 0.05% topical gel that I rub into my forearms daily. I went through menopause at 55 and my doctor added oral progesterone 100 mg per day.

I have not had any side effects from it; in fact, it made my life so much easier. I was having hot flashes, brain fog, and low energy before going on it. My osteopenia had not yet been diagnosed; I had my first DEXA at age 53.

I think taking the Fosamax during the first two years was good as I did see significant improvement in my T-scores. I don't think I should have stayed on it as long as I did, though. I never had any serious side effects while taking it like some do (digestive issues, reflux, bone pain, joint pain, etc.).

Thank you so much for getting back to me! I appreciate that. I think I
should try Fosamax bc I am 66 and the risks if transdermal estrogen at my
age outweigh the benefits. I only wish I knew about it years ago. It's
great that you started within the 10 ur timeframe of menopause. Wishing you
continued bone health! : )
