Is hair loss related to prostatectomy or prostate cancer treatment?

I'm not even sure if there is a correlation, and I wonder whether the surgery is related in any way, but my hair seems to have stopped growing. Before surgery I had a haircut every 4-5 weeks. My last haircut was Nov. 6, five days before surgery and my hair has almost not grown since. There's been no treatments after surgery. I'm 67 so hair loss would be fairly normal, but I'm not losing hair just not growing.

Surgery doesn’t affect your hair loss but going on ADT after having surgery could definitely do that. I have absolutely no armpit hair very little body hair after being on ADT for years. The hair on my head, however, does seem to grow at the same rate it used to grow before. I have a mustache and I don’t know if I could grow it back again if I shaved it off now, slow growth there.

I am on ADT and the under arm hair loss is real. Leg hair , particularly on the outer thighs is also noticeable. Head and facial hair seem unaffected. As they say, “Hair today, gone tomorrow!”

I'm 71 and had NS RARP in 06/2024. I didn't notice any slower hair growth after surgery. I don't have any special expertise on this topic, but I suspect if you're experiencing slower hair growth without some corresponding new medications to account for it then I'd suspect your diet. Recovering from surgery is a lot of stress on the body so I'd suggest taking a look at your diet to make sure you're getting adequate nutrition (ie. enough protein, vitamins, and minerals). I don't consider myself a health food crank, but rather I do see the body as a chemical engine that has physical requirements for certain nutrients. Just my 2 cents. Best wishes on your recovery.
