Qutenza

Since last August, my neuropathy pain is now in my shins as well as the tops of my feet. I’m on 1,200 mg of Gabapentin a day (300mg every six hours seems to work best), as well as Amitryptiline. My neurologist referred me to a pain specialist whom I saw last week. He suggests I try Qutenza. I understand the mechanism of the way it works but want to proceed with caution as I’m terrified of doing anything that may make this worse.

I was wondering if any of you have tried it and would share your experience with it.

Thanks to all in advance. I don’t know how I would have coped without everyone’s advice and support.

@cecelia19: I have been in a quandary for months, but I think pain in my calf on right leg is very similar to what you describe. I have had MRI Lumbar imaging, Doppler Ultrasound, muscle relaxants, Tramadol 50mg pain pills, heat therapy, ice packs, Lidocaine patches, Dicloflenac Sodium Topical gel, IcenHot gel and other topical creams, as well as Theraworx Nerve Foam.. and still with no diagnosis or pain relief.
This pain began about 3 months ago and presented with sciatica symptoms with pain from lower Lumbar vertebrae to toes on right leg.
I have attended chair yoga classes for years and this condition began while doing a mild pyroformis stretch - pain intensifying and changing until now I can only take up to 10-12 steps painless before the tingle of numb right leg leading to pain radiating down leg into calf and foot until I double over in pain -no longer able to take another step. When I lie down in bed I elevate my feet, gently massage my calf and leg and lie there quietly until the pain slowly resolves. This is the only way I can get away from the intense pain! I wonder if a wheelchair is the only way I could be mobile again?
Does my story mimic yours? Will you share your comments with me? Are you a Diabetic? Have you experienced Restless Leg Syndrome at bedtime? In the past has your feet felt stinging pain or cramps when resting?
Your answers will help me&docs determine cause as Neuropathy or Lumbar Vertebrae needing surgery! Thanks in advance!
I will do research on the drug “Qutenza” and post any info that may help your treatment decision. Bette
