Muscle spasm help
Has anyone had Botox for a muscle spasm? How long did it take to work, if it did?

@ksdm
I understand there are some risks to Botox use and long term effects. It would be good to research the pros and cons. It paralyzes muscle and can spread beyond injection points.

Thanks for the warning, but I made it through OK! This is the first time in 7 months that I don't have to sit in my chair with a heating pad and take pills. I hope it lasts for a while.
Dry needling performed by my physical therapist sorted out severe back and hip pain, the pain in my back presenting as muscle spasms. It took only 4 sessions of dry needling to get the pain manageable and to stop Tylenol and nsaids. I now take only 2 ibuprofen tablets at night, and continue daily my exercises given to me 6 months ago by my PT.
I don't have to worry about "long term", I am 82 and what ever relief I get I am so happy for!
I’d like to know if you might describe some of the exercises from PT…as I b have a similar problem. Thanks for any details!
The two times I went to PT was when my muscle spasm had stopped. Both times, after 6 visits I got a muscle spasm, so I won't be going to PT!
I hope this helps Sando: As I have progressed through PT these past 7 1/2 months due to 2 spinal compression fractures, and dry needling has relieved my back and hip pain, my Physical Therapist says strengthening exercises are the most important.
Even though my back pain and hip pain have greatly lessened, I continue to do every morning with bent knees while lying down the waving action back and forth, then 30 seconds of bridging, then a variation of the "dead bug", ending with stretched out legs one at a time rotating to loosen hips. Each evening I alternate lifting 3 lb weights (2 sets) or using a stretch band (also 2 sets) to strengthen my core with each set of these exercises followed by walking the pilate ball up the wall or sitting and rolling the ball for 30 seconds. Midday I do what my Physical Therapist calls pillow breathing. I believe this can be found by searching the internet or YouTube.
@happy2023 thank you. I love it that you follow thru with your exercises. Many are not consistent and consistency is key as well as listening to your body. I miss some exercises but try to be consistent. Good luck & blessings
Hi there, I was only talking your dry needling person, who you described as a physical therapist. Im interested in the exercises you take from her now…if it’s possible to share. I’m sorry your other 2 PT attempts failed but how good that you
Found help with your dry needle & exercises from
Your current PT! I don’t know anyone who does dry needling…but thought the exercises you do under her advice would be helpful to know for me & others. Thanks!
Keep in mind it's Botox - with "tox" in the word makes me consider toxic.
