How can I find a psychiatrist who is licensed in New York and Florida?

Posted by lakesofdelray @lakesofdelray, 5 days ago

My home is in New York. I spend the winter in Florida. I had a psychiatrist that was dual licensed, but she left. I’ve called my provider and they couldn’t help. I called the hospital my gp is associated with and I am waiting to hear from them. Any other ideas. I don’t want 2 psychiatrists. This is not helpful for my anxiety. Thanks for any advice

@lakesofdelray If you Google "dual state psychiatrist new york and florida" [without the quote marks!], the results give you several choices to look into.

Good luck!

The American Psychiatric Association might be useful. While not every psychiatrist in practice in the US is a member of this national organization you might find a psychiatrist licensed in NY and Florida here.

How about the American Medical Association? Or, a long shot, your State Representative?

@dianekbrown In health care it is the patient that needs to be a resident in the state where the medical provider is licensed. For instance, I live in Michigan and my psychiatrist might be a resident in North Carolina but he must be licensed in Michigan in order to treat me.

So, if @lakesofdelray is spending the winter in Florida and she wants to see her NY psychiatrist, that psychiatrist must be also have a license to practice medicine in Florida.

I recently had a conversation about this with a medical provider in Michigan where I live. I hope this is helpful.

@lakesofdelray Have you had any success in finding a psychiatrist licensed in NY and FL?
