berries are good with oatmeal. I see a dietician and with my diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease i need to cut back on salty foods and also watch the high carbs and animal based proteins. I can say things but in moderation. My nephrologist said. "veggies, veggies, veggies and lots of water is kidneys friendly. I have discovered a food named glass noodles , classic thai food that is good for me and delicious. Plant based foods seem the way to go. Eggs, fish and plant based foods are my go to's.Also apples are among the fruits to have. what we must stay away from is tomatoes, oranges, melons and dried fruits like dates . if you research these things there are also a lot of do not eat things and some can eat things in moderation. animal protein and salt are things to limit or try to avoid .t

@njwrstlr Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You have posted good basic dietary guidelines that so many of us follow! And sometimes we need to also combine a solid renal diet with another diet plan to work with another health concern. It certainly makes it a challenge on a day to day basis.

Good for you for being proactive in handling your CKD. Have you figured out the basic cause of the CKD for you?

This is reassuring as it is what I am trying to do and my GFR is 44..I also add one clove of raw garlic minced everyday into my salad since I no longer take asprin.I am hoping this will help thin my blood.....plus it tastes good.It is hard eating to fight/slow down pre-diabetes and CKD stage 3b....bon courage
