I have been on benzos for longer than I would like to admit. Largely for panic and general anxiety disorder. They have helped me immensely get through life and achieve many milestones. However, as I approach older age, I have a strong desire to taper off as much as I can. I have successfully lowered my dose from 1.75 per day to .5 per day and feel fine. This was due to a very slow taper over the last two years. I find that the bigger challenge as I titrate down is the psychological battle that must be fought. (becoming acclimated to the reality that you are in the world without that pharmacological support and you’re actually “doing it” on your own! Good luck to all.

I began tapering off 1 mg clonazepam in September. I have been doing well. My symptoms were manageable. I am now completely off. I have begun having withdrawal symptoms. Shaking and jerking movements, horrible tinitis, blurred vision. I feel like I’m in a funhouse. Vertigo, it feels like the ground is tilting, flu like symptoms. I went to the ER a week ago because I convinced myself I was dying. Was tested for flu and covid. Both negative. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how long did this last?

You should be gradually tapering EVERY DAY. Unfortunately, the majority of doctors do not know how to taper people.. 5 to 10% a month at the most. A very slow taper works best listen to your body.. Every other day confuses your body. No wonder you don’t feel right.

So called is right. When I needed help getting off of Ativan not ONE knew how to Correctly taper off. I had to find a Benzo website where there’s millions of people trying to get off and they do get off with proper help.

They have no business prescribing these unless they have schooling on what happens after you build a tolerance to these and the horrible symptoms that come with them. This is a silent epidemic. These doctors need to be held accountable for what they do and how they don’t help
