Osteoporosis medication continuity?

I can’t know for sure what role all of these played. I started receiving DEXA scans in 2014 at the age of 53. My scores were in the osteopenia range at that time and remained there until 2018 when they just barely slipped into osteoporosis.

I was started on Fosamax and my scores moved back into osteopenia in 2021 but follow-ups DEXAs in 2023 and 2024 showed that my hip was again in the osteoporosis range.

My spinal T-score has always been in the osteopenia range but I still fractured just over a year ago.

I can only hope that the HRT and other measures perhaps helped slow down the bone resorption and that I might have been worse off without it.

I plan to stay on HRT for the rest of my life. My OB/GYN is ok with this.

Hi oopsiedaisy. I have Osteoporosis and was told to startvon Fosomax but I am terrified of these side effects. I was thinking about a low dose estrogen patch but I am 66 and don't know if my dr would ptescribe that bc of my age. Can I ask what age you started on HRT and do you have any bad side effects from it. TIA
