Advice on Penis pumps

Posted by graybeard46 @graybeard46, Jan 5 8:37am

I am 4 months post prostate surgery and soon to start radiation since some cancer still evident. The mental stress of cancer is bad enough but not having sex with my wife adds greatly to my getting down . I bought a pump from menmd a month ago but not able to get rigid enough for sex and the rubber tension ring is semi painful and makes any amount of of pleasure difficult. I’m tempted to try injections but with radiation and hormone treatments which kill my testosterone, maybe I should be more patient?

I totally understand your anxiety just remember that the pump does work just make sure you use it often and properly. There’s a lot of information on YouTube. Good luck my friend

Lots of discussion re penis pumps. Can someone recommend a specific brand? Or are they all the same?

Vacurect. I used it along with viagra and periodic stimulation to orgasm to maintain penile oxygenation for nine months following prostatectomy, resulting in full return of erectile function @ age 74.

Thank all of you for sharing. I would like to have sex again or at least get an erection. I had RP with nerve saving on left side only, 44 radiation treatments, and two years if Lupron hormone injections. Stopped all erections. Do I have a chance of getting anything back?

You have a nerve on your left side. It will take about two years to recover. You will get an erection. Stick to Kegel exercises and pelvic floor muscle exercise, keep a good attitude, you will be successful, strong wind again!

Perhaps time to explore other methods of sex with your wife? While sex was way up my list, it's not so much today. Our intimacy is further complicated by the HER2 breast cancer she had. Complications due to her not being able to take hormones. Have you tried Cialis? My surgeon prescribed them after my first post op visit.

I’ve been cancer free for 13yrs had seed implants and radiation therapy for 12 months and slowly after 3 years experienced dry organisms, limp penis, started with Viagra, worked for about 3 yrs, then every pill on the market, then Trimix which worked very well for several years. My wife of 31years had Diabetes and started going downhill and we quit sex completely in her last 3yrs. My penis stopped getting erections the last 4yrs. She passed 2yrs ago last November. At 77 I thought sex would never happen again because my Johnson had died, I found a wonderful 72yr old woman who was very understanding and we worked together to make sex happen. I started using the vacuum pump 4to 5 times a week and for 3 minutes at a time, started a Tri Mix but never got a rock hard erection. Finally I started a quad mix which along with using the pump 5 times a week and an understanding woman who helped me through massive anxiety issues worked out a way by standing upright it finally worked. My anxiety left immediately and achieved the first orgasm in 3 yrs. There is a down side with some discomfort and some pain but the outcome out weighs the pain. Good luck my friend

I had an RP in 10/21, Lupron for one year and 37 pelvic radiation treatments. Complete ED. Used the vacuum pump to rehab and also with the penis ring for erections but that was unsatisfactory. Have used Trimix with great results.

I thought I would never have spontaneous erections again. On the advice of my urologist I have been taking Cialis 5mg/day to help penile blood flow and periodically use a pump to also help blood flow and simulate nightly erections and "stretch" the tissue.

Under the advisement of my MO I recently began TRT as my T never recovered after only one year of Lupron (stopped Lupron 7/23 and T never got above 50). To my surprise I have experienced a few nocturnal erections, so the Johnson isn't dead. There is hope. Keep doing penile rehab. There is a lot of info on the web about it.

How late is too late to even begin rehab?
I'm still struggling with incontinence & waiting to see another surgeon about an artificial urinary sphincter.
Erectile function is way down the list of priorities right now.
Four months post-op.
