After catheter removal

Catheter removed yesterday. Now it begins. It was painless and quick. What is now evident is how much fluid passes thru your bladder. I am wearing depends. In 24 hrs I have used 4 - two fully soaked and two medium soaked. Starting kegels today following Anita Gaglani, RPT program. The diet is tough, the exercises are easy but 8 times a day. 10 weeks to continence. 😎

Good luck on your continence recovery. For some it happens fast. For me, it took 10 months. I’m grateful that I’m continent now. Keep doing your exercises and watching your diet.

Good luck to you, David! Know that results do vary. My RALP was Sept of ‘23 and, thank God, I was continent from the catheter removal on. I too read Vanita’s book prior to surgery, performed the exercises diligently, and had great results. I’m convinced it helped.

ED has been minor. I was willing to exchange continence and ED for getting the cancer out. Thankfully, the bad didn’t happen. I plan to enjoy my grandkids and amazing wife for years to come.

We don’t decide the “stuff” in our lives, but we choose how to respond. Be positive and, after gathering as much information as you can, make the best decision for your situation and don’t look back.

Good things can happen. I had another post-op report that my PSA was “undetectable”. The surgeon is encouraged and I’m stepping back to annual tests now.

wow ! Thanks outstanding. I still have 3 weeks for my psa test - hoping results are good.

Start your Kegels and keep doing them on your own after PT. I was able to get full control of my bladder within two months after RP. You will want to continue to do these as the muscles need to be toned probably for the rest of your life.

What is your diet like? I'm curious since in 18 days I have surgery, 7 later the catheter is out.

I would suggest you read (buy) vanity gaglani,s book life after prospecting. Diet is described in the book.

Not a big deal - whatever you normally eat is fine. But I would avoid gassy foods - broccoli, beans, etc - for 2 or 3 days before surgery. You don’t want the surgeon working on a moving target!

Monday will be 9 weeks since RP and incontinence is an ongoing issue, changing 5-6 times a day. I did not do enough kegels before so my path may take a while longer. I've heard great variations in how long it lasts. so I'm just moving forward. One more month until my first post-surgery bloodwork.

Couldn’t agree more. I did Kegels religiously before and after my RP and had ZERO incontinence issues. Best wishes!
