High Platelet count

Posted by denise96 @denise96, 3 days ago

My husband's oncology nurse called today and wants new blood work done this week. She said the last one showed his platelets are high. I asked her what this meant and she said it could mean that there is a mutation of the cancer. Does anyone know what that means? I did google it but still not sure what the answer is in plain english. Thanks.

Elevated platelets have many causes. Has he had any treatment yet? For me, it was because i had cancer treatment and it did not rebound to its level of the past.
If there is a portal at the oncologist office, use it. If he is readying for treatment or ending, this question has different reasons. I had MDS after BC and that was when i noted my platelets did not recover. I have a TP53 mutation. Has your husband had a genetic test? Not sure why you would be told it is a mutation without a name for it.

She is not sure if it means a mutation or if it was a bad draw. But she wants another blood test asap. Talked to my daughter in law tonight who is an oncology nurse and she seems to believe it was a bad draw. Anyhow, I have a call into the visiting nurses to come do a blood draw before Jan 9. He gets his brain mri that day. So, we will find out soon what happened. Thanks for replying.

denise96. That is good, I get a draw every month now. Mine is this Friday. The best part of your reply is the medical team you are referring to. A DIL who is an oncology nurse is a blessing. Away to talk to someone to know what questions to ask. Keep us posted on here. We help each other when we share.

I have talked to the visiting nurse yesterday and she said they would try and get someone out here to do a blood draw. I told her that I needed to know asap as I need to call the oncology nurse back. He needs it done today or tomorrow. Hopefully, they can get someone out here. I know the back roads can be a challenge, but hopefully the main roads are OK.

denise96- I hope they get there and get the draw you need. I am not sure who is testing the blood, but i hope the next step will provide more answers.
