AI and Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis.....

First off, I'm not a big artificial intelligence guy. Heck, whenever I hear the term AI the first thing that I think about is some rancher doing artificial insemination on his cow herd. Don't even get me started on AI and phones. But, since the speaker had a hand in my prostate cancer treatment, I was compelled to listen to this recent (December 2024) podcast titled: Using AI to Diagnose and Treat Cancer.

Well, I would feel more comfortable talking with an oncologist. While most medical procedures have certain common issues that AI can generate we are all different and AI is no substitute for talking with an oncologist.

My own two cents is that AI definitely has a place for treatment planning and possibly predicting outcomes. But again, I continue to be amazed at the variability of this disease. Until AI can take into account host response in all its complex machinations I will defer to RI - Real Intelligence.
Someone once said “We don’t know what we don’t know”. Right now AI depends on what WE know, it cannot come up with solutions on its own. True, algorithms can sift thru data at the blink of an eye, but it’s still OUR data.
If the unthinkable happens and AI can reason on its own, prostate cancer will be the least of our problems😳
