Colonoscopy Accuracy Question
Hi All
Had a colonoscopy done back in March 2027 which came back clear for cancer but haemorrhoids were detected and subsequently operated on.
However my bleeding still persists and I’ve lost weight recently with occasional stomach cramps and change in bowel habits.
My GP says it’s the haemorrhoids and possible IBS, and will not investigate further because of the clear colonoscopy.
I’m worried the colonoscopy might have missed cancer.
Has anybody on here ever had any such an experience please?
Thanks
Gabe

Sorry meant 2024…
Almost everyone I know who had rectal cancer was told it was hemorrhoids. You need to see a GI specialist or even an oncologist and consider suing you G.P. for malpractice. Too many people are suffering because of incompetence. It is not normal to bleed for so long so even if he thinks it is not cancer, it should be resolved.
Thank you. I’ve an appointment with the surgeon who performed my haemorrhoid operation earlier this month at the end of January and will not hesitate to tell him that I’m not going to stop with this concern till they’ve at the very least used at methods of investigation at their disposal to find out what’s going on.
Thanks again,
Gabe
I was told that polyps grow slowly, so I wonder if that is the reasoning of not recommending a colonoscopy within 12 months of each other. I was advised to have one in 2023, after a clear one with no polyps in 2020, due to a change in bowel habits. I actually had one in 2024 and it was normal.
I hope they can figure it out. Did they say if the surgery has healed?
Bless, I’m glad your second one was clear too..
No, they just said my bowel prep was good, it was a clear visual with detailed camera pics and the chance of it being incorrect was less than 2%.
But, one knows their body and I know something is amiss, whatever it is it’s affecting my bladder now too and I can’t shake off these stomach cramps and erratic toilet visits.
What’s worrying me more is that this is the second haemorrhoid op I’ve had and the bleeding is still persisting. I seemed to have healed somewhat from the second surgery and the pain is much less but everything else is the same.
What made you go for your colonoscopy? I hope you’re better knowing it’s clear?
Yes, the second colonoscopy being normal brought me a lot of reassurance. I had been under GI care due to chronic constipation.
I’m having intermittent improvement. I had no pain or bleeding. Working on my total health. Good luck with your treatment.
I think that’s what I need a second colonoscopy to reassure me it’s nothing sinister, so that’s what I’m pushing for next!
Glad you’re all good!!
I’m grateful my colon looks normal. So…..still to figure out my chronic constipation.
Try ispaghol husk, a table spoon mixed in a glass of water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. It’ll take a few days to work. It helped me a lot…
Just remember to drink lots of water throughout the day though!
