I was almost 67 years old when I started treatments. I started the 3-month injections of Lupron and 45 radiation treatments at the same time. Once a week, they would always ask about my experience, fatigue, thoughts of suicide, or depression, and my answer was always no. Researching, I found that a small percentage of men experience an increase in libido but with the usual side effects of ED, muscle, and genital atrophy. I kept a journal. For the two years, it was the same. The first week or two, it was lower back pain, very restless. The hot flashes evolved into hot sweets.
The two most significant issues I dealt with were, first, loss of bone density. GET BONE DINISTY TESTS. Because of the Lupron, I fractured my tibia plateau, and it took the better part of a year to get back to normal. The other issue I experienced from about day 15 to about day 75 was I would quickly become mentally fixated on any range of subjects, persons, and the like. Around day 75, I could sense myself becoming more self-aware about everything. Why was this so for me? I have no idea to this day. What I found helpful was keeping active. I walked, exercised, bicycled, and took dancing classes. Being single, I dated, made some new connections, stayed in touch with friends and family, and drove for Uber. Stay involved, keep moving and active, and, more importantly, get out of your comfort zone and try new things.
