Hello @lilypilly. It can be a little awkward. They do make handheld small ones that you can easily move around. The larger machine I recommended does work well for me. My neck gets hard as a rock, making it difficult to breathe and eat. It helps to move your head around until it feels comfortable, then move around so the machine gets to both sides of the neck. You can also pick the machine up and hold it, so it is easily massaging the front of the neck. They probably make newer types that are more lightweight. Mine is vintage! In addition, make sure the massaging heads are going downward, so the lymph fluid is being gently pushed downward. My machine has a switch, so the machine can massage upward, or downward.
