Evenity bone density treatment 5 years after a spinal fusion

Posted by chardouglas @chardouglas, Sep 22, 2023

I had a spinal fusion L2-L5 Dec 2018. I took Prolia for 2 years then stopped. My bone density was almost normal before surgery but is now osteoporosis. The doctor wants me to take Evenity for 1 year. It builds bone hopefully from osteoporosis to osteopenia. But I am really nervous about the hardware in my spine. I can't find a doctor who has prescribed Evenity to a patient with an existing fusion- only immediately after surgery to promote the bone adhering to the hardware. Has anyone take Evenity 4-5 years after a spinal fusion? Thank you.

Everyone reacts different I guess. Wish there were holistic options! Maria.

I've taken bone density drugs for 25 years so was hoping for an alternative. I've taken Fosamax, Forteo, Boniva and Prolia. I didn't have many side effects. But going off Prolia for 2 years has caused my density to go from almost normal to osteoporosis. I was just told I should never have stopped Prolia because this is what happens. I hope you find something that works for you.
