Transdermal HRT

Posted by vkmov @vkmov, Oct 19, 2023

Many studies have found that transdermal HRT protects and builds bone without all the horrific side effects of many first-line osteoporosis treatments. The patch bypasses the liver and thereby avoids the risks of breast cancer, strokes, etc. Has anyone explored this or discussed it with their doctors?

What osteoporosis meds have you done? I'd like to do tymlos for a awhile but not sure if would have any positive effects because I had 5 years of alendronate, then forteo, eve ity and my recent and only shot of Prolia. Been on bhrt for 3 1/2 months. Let's all keep posting results with her onboard

@gravity3 I’m curious - did you have good gains from Forteo with a prior 5yr treatment with fosamax?

It has been a long time since forteo and I no longer have the records. I do know that I had very minor gains. I had had about a year on alendronate before seeing an endocrinologist then resumed after 2 years of forteo. I don't think that anyone knew them that taking it after a bisphosphonate would negate some of forteo's bone building properties. That is my guess at least. I'm sorry that I can't offer better information.

Trying to figure all of this out is like a full time job. Thanks for your response. My provider is switching me from the patch at .0375 to .05 which will now be included in my testosterone pellet, I believe she will also be increasing my progesterone and she I creased my testosterone by a tiny bit. She started me slowly because I am 76 and haven't had her for decades due to the flawed women's health initiative study. Good luck to us all.

I am not familiar with the "flawed women's health initiative study." Can you give me a reference -- was it flawed with respect to taking hormones about menopause? Thank you.

There a number of new books on the topic as well. I don't have the titles available right now

For those of you who started HRT and progesterone at least 5-10 years after menopause, what additional benefits, if any, are you experiencing? Better sleep, clearer thinking, less musculoskeletal pain, lower cholesterol, anything else?

Yes. Fabulous upswing of libido, no more urine leaks, energy, positive changes in skin, more desire to engage in life , vaginal dryness and atrophy a thing of the past.
