Is there any help at all for foot numbness in PN

Posted by wascaly @wascaly, Oct 27, 2024

I’ve had PN several years. I’m not diabetic (amazingly), and I don’t have pain in my feet - just this horrible numbness, mainly in my left foot (sometimes both feet), leading to the fear of falling, AGAIN!

I’m wondering if anyone has found ANYTHING to help. I’ve spent buckets of money on creams, plus I’ve seen all kinds of expensive gadgets advertised on TV. I’m hesitant to buy any of them, since they look like versions of snake oil.

Has anyone had ANY relief from this horrific and DANGEROUS numbness?

The short answer is NO. This is because I cannot walk without my walker. When I fell in 2/23 and broke my hip, instead of dong a hip replacement, he did an open reduction internal fixation. Because of this guy’s bad judgment call, I now have one leg shorter than the other - hence the walker.

It will be a miracle if some genuine person with a real desire to find something to help ever takes up the challenge. While the powerful lot make so much money out of making creams to rub on or some other superficial suggestions, there will not be anything of real help. The expectation of any real help seems to be diminishing mor and more every day. It looks like we are stuck with it.

@wascaly, Good evening. I have been struggling with numbness in my feet for a long time. Here is what works for me. My therapist places me on a therapy bed with my feet stretched out. She then closes her hand with three knuckles tightened, places them on the bottom of my foot, and rubs up and down several times back and forth. The numbness filters away, and I can use my feet again. I try it myself at bedtime, after my shower in the morning, and before I put on shoes to go anywhere. It works if you can remember to do it on a regular basis.

Hi, just coming in on the middle of the conversation it seems… have you seen a neurologist? I had two strokes during cardiac surgery leaving me with right leg deficients (pain, numbness, paresthesia). Also have trouble with balance and walking. I heard rowing is good. But not sure it’ll help with that numbness.

I need to look for a “willing” volunteer to try that - I’m at the point, I’ll try anything!

Thanks - if it works for me, I’ll certainly post it here!

Oh, yes….i’ve seen several neurologists and they’ve all said there’s nothing that can be done for the numbness.
I agree - rowing does zero for the numbness. I’ve been using the recumbent bike for cardiovascular exercise. That works for keeping my weight down but nothing for the debilitating numbness.
It’s all very demoralizing to know in this day and time that no medical professional has any answers!

I’m so sorry. 😞 I’m in the same boat… all we can do is keep rowing 😉❤️ (pun intended)

Yes to Bearefoot shoes…they are the most comfortable and supportive for my numb feet.

Given that numbness, not pain, is the issue for my feet. what mitigation of such or improvement does work? Summus laser therapy (every 3 weeks) via a chiropractor has prevented it worsening & gives me some sensitivity; but can anything else be done. The chiro. also sells me 2 pill form supplements. On my own for 7+ years, I have taken turmeric to alleviate achy fingers from previous work experience; it might be helping the feet? Otherwise, I have an exercise regimen of walking & an every 3-day routine at Planet Fitness -- 8 weight machines + a stretching routine. Movement seems to keep me sane & vigorous enough to endure, to not give up.
