Bulge in middle after colon resection
I had sigmoid colon resection, 13” removed due to diverticulitis. Immediately after surgery I had a large buldge, that has not gone down after 2 1/2 months. Had a ct scan to detect a possible hernia, nothing. Very bloated, uncomfortable right after eating, even small meals, have this large band around my middle. Pull slot when I lift. What could it be

Hi, I had a colorectal resection done 6 weeks ago. I’m constantly bloated. Like a beer belly. Clothes don’t fit and it pains in my lower back. Constipated all the time. I’ve been alternating GasX and Dulcolax. Everyday I have Restorolax. I eat small meals and nothing helps. I went back to my surgeon who did X-ray and a colonoscopy to see and all he saw was backed up poop. But no concern as long as I was having bowel movements, which I am.
I wonder how long till my stomach is back to normal.
Hi, this is a common issue, it will get better. I had my right sided colon removed in March. Constipation and "lumps" come and go, they are less frequent. I take two Colace daily in the morning and a dulcolax about once every one to two weeks when I get uncomfortable. Dulcolax can irritate and inflame sometimes, I try not to take it unless I have to. I find Mirolax worsens my symptoms. I recommend trying Colace, I take the generic. Clothes don't fit the same, they are tighter since things have shifted and yes, there is a bulge. I have been the same size for years, but am now choosing non restrictive pants with stretch and sizing up as needed for comfort. Best wishes for your recovery!
Hi, I had a colorectal resection done 8 months ago, my stomach is still bloated, and I’m also constipated, with aches to the bottom of my back. Yesterday ( Friday) I had my second appointment with the colonoscopy specialist nurse, where i asked her the reason why I was feeling so bloated, she replied some have constipation, some have the runs, and that I myself have to try as with anyone who has had this type of surgery to try and help themselves, which I constantly do. She also commented that this can be your life going forward, but it can take anywhere up to two years before the soreness or pain begins to subside. As before this is my second specialist appointment, my next one is in April, where I will receive a CT scan together with bloods taken. Up to now everything is ok. But as with yourself my clothes do not fit me as of yet. Forgot to mention I have developed an umbilical hernia. Take care, and happy new year.
I didn’t suffer long after my resection from constipation but for the time I did, when the medicine wasn’t working I added in extra water and prunes… the prunes were like magic. I pray it clears up for you soon! Blessing 🙂
