I just contracted bacterial bilateral pneumonia and have had broncheatatis and MAC disease for a year. I was given amoxicillin and azithromycin 4 days ago for the pneumonia. Wondering if I should have gone to ER for treatment. All my drs. are gone until next week. I feel a little better but still have fever, aches and pains and coughing up copious amounts of green sputum.

With the Mac disease, they probably should’ve prescribed Levaquin instead of azithromycin. I’m recovering from pneumonia and was originally put on Augmentin and then azithromycin for the pneumonia for “better coverage“. I didn’t really turn the corner until we switched to Levaquin from azithromycin. Because of Mac, the doctors in the know usually avoid azithromycin. My PCP prescribed the azithro not the pulmonologist. You could probably call the covering doctor have him paged and talk to them about switching. Hope you feel better. It’s really rough. Keep up with the clearance.
