I was prescribed Cymbalta for nerve pain by a new doctor in an attempt to get me off Tramadol which I have taken since like 2012 for severe spondylolithsesis. I am extremely mindful of what I put in my mouth and do not have an addictive personality. This doctor accused me of being a drug addict - then he looked at my X-rays and realized he was mistaken and prescribed the tramadol.( I am unable at this point to have surgery due to lung issues.) I had already picked up the Cymbalta at the pharmacy . It really is a helpful drug for overall mood and pain relief. You could try it and see if it helps you. If you don’t see an improvement stop it by tapering off gradually and you should be fine. I was able to get a “right for me”doctor with the help of my old pcp who went into ID at the local hospital here. Doctors need to listen to their patients. Really listen. You can’t take Cymbalta with tramadol so if you do start it make sure you know what it might interact with- your pharmacist should tell you. You have to advocate for yourself, and it is hard sometimes with the new government rules. Older people are especially being impacted as I think we want quality of life as we age and sometimes that is just darn hard when you have chronic pain. Both my husband and I lost our wonderful pcp in June. I finally have recently found someone for him. He has many health issues and losing a pcp then needing meds before his far out (February appointment with the new pcp ) has been a nightmare. Wishing you good luck. Irene5
For me it was mostly my stomach getting used to it,they started me on 30mg for two weeks and see how you do and then bump you up to 60mg. I had a small amount of nausea for a couple of weeks right after taking it. It also makes me a little groggy when first waking up in the morning. It helps me way more than the side effects bother me.
