The inconsistencies are baffling. Even after diagnosis and ample confirmation, my dad will astound us with sporadic memory of PINs, SS#, even addresses he lived as a child! But, he has huge deficits in other ways with poor judgment, little insight into his condition, no short term memory, and extreme OCD and fixations. A visitor might not realize there’s a problem. We are able to inform his doctor at regular visits.

Celia...you just said it all; every symptom you cited my husband has. You articulated what I have been trying to summarize so perfectly. Isn't it amazing that the same behaviors materialize in those hit with --I don't know? Dementia, Alzheimer's? Just old age? My husband will not consult a physician. I see him trying to handle his confusion and fear of a "nursing home." I see a counselor and try to say and do the right things, but I'm not a patient woman and I have (had?) pancreatic cancer and have limited energy. The future will be a challenge, but we have two supportive children (ages 61 and 56), one nearby; Medicare and insurance; and adequate finances. My heart goes out to those without these helps. Carrie
