Posted by debmccaff @debmccaff, Dec 27, 2024

Hi all, I’m just wondering if anyone suffers with nerve damage in the the leg or legs and can give me any ideas on what medication helps them , I am on gabapentin and paracetamol and codeine phosphate but I’ve had that for 4 years and it’s now not working, also any holistic remedies would be welcome ( I’ve tried acupuncture, no good) many thanks

@debmccaff: Your post tonight seems to mimic my painful leg situation. I have been experiencing nerve pain in my right leg for over 2 months with no specific cause. Initial pain running from lower back down right leg to foot we named sciatica; however, I am questioning now. The lumbar x-ray showed no fracture or change in prior bulging vertebrae. The venous ultrasound was negative for blood clots. MRI Abd/Pelvis is scheduled for 1/2/25. Muscle relaxants and Tramadol 40mg does not touch the pain and walking is excruciating after several steps. I have tried heat, ice, forced walking with high pain, rest with leg elevated, massage, etc. Any ideas?
I fear becoming immobile or bed-bound. Can you shed some treatment suggestions or what tests, or diagnosis to help me? Bette

Hello @debmccaff, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with Bette @dbmos1945 and others. There is another discussion that sometimes gets overlooked for neuropathy type symptoms in the legs that you might find helpful:
-- Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) for treating compression and pain:

The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a list of complementary and alternative treatments for neuropathy that others have found helpful - https://www.foundationforpn.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Complementary-and-Alternative-Treatments-Revised-2020-final.-1.pdf

Other members have also shared what has helped them in other discussions that you might want to scan through. Here's a search link of Connect for "neuropathy leg pain what helps" - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/discussions/?search=neuropathy%20leg%20pain%20what%20helps.

You mentioned you have been dealing with the symptoms for over 4 years and the medication has not helped. Can you share a little more about your neuropathy diagnosis? Have you talked with your doctor on any alternatives that might help?

in reply to @debmccaff I too have nerve pain, but so far the opinion is mixed on the cause, but I am seeing a back surgeon in three weeks. My problem is either due to weight loss and I am sitting on a nerve, I have a medtronic implant in my sacral spine and I have Tarlov cysts. If I sit for more than 30 minutes both of my legs go numb, which is probably why my watch tells me I am averaging "standing time " of 15 plus hours. The donut pillow I bought helps, but I feel like a fool taking it to restaurants, church, meetings etc. I know, "no one cares," but I care...vanity has ruined me. Best of luck

look into IVIG it happened to me a week after my first covid 19 vaccine. The Neurologist At ucla said he is seeing more and more of it. I had 44 treatments but not until after 2 years of thee loss of feeling and strength in my legs. I got better for awhile and then a change in the manufacture or lack of hydration caused some ill affects and loss of some vision in my right eye. A friend had the same thing happen to him after his first buster shot. the next day he was paralyzed and went on a ventilator for two weeks. They gave him 5 infusions for a week a and he walked home two weeks later, Seems to me that it needs to be gotten to sooner than later,.
Next week i start on Vyvgart and am hoping for the best.
Thats just my take on it after 4 years now of different trails of things.
