Weight loss before surgery

Posted by meemhull @meemhull, Dec 24, 2024

So I finally made the decision for prostate removal, and my surgeon said I need to lose 30 lbs for the procedure. Once my mind was made up I hoped to get scheduled quickly and get this over with. Did any one else need to shed some pounds for the robotic type surgery? If so, how did you lose quickly?

I did, cause it made sense.
They have to cut through a lot during surgery, then use gas to push organs out of the way. It's pretty tight in there, so the less they have to fight through, the better.

Don't starve yourself - you don't have to turn into a stick insect.
Just cut down on sodas (preferably switch to water) , definitely pause smoking, if that's your thing, and hold off on too many fatty foods. Get some walking in.
It sucks, but it's worth it. The best investment you can make.
Don't overdo it just be conscious of "bad" foods. It's only for a while & really does make recovery a bit easier.

Christmas is the exception. This is a stressful time. Enjoy yourself & have a great Christmas.

I immediately cut out all alcohol and stopped all snacking in chips, pretzels, etc. Ate baby carrots instead.
Lowered my carb intake somewhat - LESS pasta and bread - NOT zero.
Increase your exercise regimen to burn calories - interval/high intensity cardio.
But instead of killing yourself with this, why not schedule your surgery a bit farther down the road? Another month or 6 weeks will not make a difference.

Eat protein and avoid carbs! Also, exercise and drink lots of water. You can do it.
