@fabpainter curious why you never had a bone builder like Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity.
I have seen that 40% figure for joint pain with Evenity but not Reclast. Of course the list of possible side effects with Reclast- or any of these drugs- is quite long. But many do fine.
I find Facebook groups to be more negative than this forum.
I am not without side effects from any of the drugs I have taken for bones- Tymlos, Evenity, Reclast but I also have several fractures that are painful and disabling. I can barely lift a water bottle. So it is good to weigh risks and benefits.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I can only imagine how difficult that must be. After the Fosamax issue, I concentrated on diet, exercise, calcium, Vit D and there was little change in my DEXA numbers until last fall. I researched and followed this group for quite a while before deciding to try Reclast. I know many people who never had the other meds, just Reclast, and are doing very well with improved numbers and no side effects. With it being in the same medication class, as Fosamax I was aware that I might. And, yes, risk versus benefits always a consideration. I will see how things go between now and January.

@katgirl I did a partial dose due to kidney disease, afib, lupus etc. My doctor wanted me to do low dose first.
Nevertheless I had the expected fever for 5 days and was sick. It did not distress me because I expected it. No reaction to second dose. Overall no side effects that I am aware of.
I had the Reclast Infusion in September 2024, within 8 hours of Infusion, I was sick in bed for 5 days. This is the worst sickness to anything I have ever had. Worse than Covid for me. The pain was severe all through my body. I could barely breathe. I lost all sense of taste, smell, appetite, energy, etc. I became very phglemmy, and the mucus was black. I also suffered from ocular swelling in the right eye, where my eye swelled so much, it was unbearable. It hurt to do anything, and unfortunately, the ocular swelling lasted for about a week. I learned that my symptoms were probably along the line of an allergic reaction as stated by several doctors, and unfortunately, this is a definite no for me again, so I do not know what I will do for my bones; ie hypercalcemia, severe osteoporosis, and bone issues. I am concerned because this was an option that was hopefully going to work, but by the effects, that is a no for me. I still feel issues with the infusion to current. My advice, do your homework regarding everything, and listen to your body.

@closetmonster93 I got really sick too with my first infusion but was told it was an acute phase reaction suffered to varying degrees by 40% of people who do Reclast. I recovered after a couple of weeks (fever for 5 -7 days) and didn't have any reaction at all to my second infusion.
It would be important to distinguish between the acute phase reaction and an allergy since allergy might mean avoiding Reclast but the acute phase reaction would be unlikely to recur.
Same with me. I have had 5 Reclast infusions with absolutely no side effects. I have no other medical conditions except for osteoporosis. Perhaps, those with underlying medical conditions taking Reclast have experienced serious side effects. I hope their physician helped them to understand why. But, I am happy to hear that you had none! All the best and may you continue to have no side effects!
I had my 1st reclast infusion on Dec. 3. I had no side effects except for feeling sleepy and tired 24 hrs after infusion. The following days until today, I feel normal. I am a healthy 72 yr old woman diagnosed with age related osteoporosis.

@windyshores I greatly appreciate that information. It seems that getting into one of these groups is much more helpful and informative with where, and what decisions I can or will make next. At this point, I will have to see what doctor says in January and where I sit on the bone density scan again. My bone is deteriorating fast, and so I am trying to make an informed decision about what I should do before a hip fracture.

What was your reaction to the reclast infusion? Did you do a full dose? or a partial dose at first? Thanks!

Have you seen Reclast to have a positive effect on your bone density? I have not had that outcome after 2 infusions
