I take 2-3 Fibercon w/laxative after lunch and 2 stool softener pills before bedtime.
Usually it makes bowels move by next morning or midday.
I drink coffee after getting up and water the rest of the day.
Works for me.
For me, I stopped all the metamucil/ benefiber, prunes. They'd all meet up in my colon & was having bowel movements once a wk. I'm w many diagnosis, no solutions. Pills for this, pills for that. I had to reset my biological clock!! No food allergies but dr ordered gluten free diet, then high fiber, low fiber, low soluble, etc. Diets. Dulcolax, didn't work for me. Hot licorice stash tea, drinks at room temperature. Sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, cooked well. Potatoe & carrot soup in chicken broth w thyme. If you're neat tolerant eat fish & chicken, supposed to be easiest meats to digest. My system doesn't digest meat. Replaced w protein 30g boost/ensure x3 a day. There is something abt potatoe skins & look up which type banana to eat
Just to add, I visited my Dr for my 3 weeks check after my BMT in April and my creatinine is .76 as i drink half my bodyweight daily in water. As tom1970 said, plain old water. You might look up the benefits of water and see how adding any of the previous suggestions and additional water may help. One i hope works for you and all with this issue. No fun for sure.80 ozs and more per day. I track daily bottles.
I have a history of constipation and everything that the doctor had me try either caused side effects or didn't work.
I found the coconut water with a little 100%fruit juice helped my constipation.
I have short gut syndrome and most medication for constipation I can't take.
Lack of fluids can also cause constipation. Plain water isn't the best fluid to drink for some people. Some people need extra sodium and glucose in their fluids for it to absorb. Lack of electrolytes can also cause constipation.
Some people can't drink plain water because it doesn't absorb in their body. Some people need to drink fluids with sodium and glucose in them to absorb in the body. Plus some people can be low on electrolytes which plain water doesn't have.
I can’t drink plain water all I drink is mio and crystal light flavors or starburst or skittles. I drink a can of Ollie pop it’s a probiotic when I start getting constipated and it helps
I have to have sodium and glucose (sugar) in my drinks. So I mix some salt, sugar and add some crystal light or true lemon for added flavor in my water. That helps to absorb the water in my body.
I had a lot of constipation issues and can still have constipation if I do not follow a remedy that my body has adjusted to. I drink 1/2 my body weight in water each day and 1-2 small gatorades. I eat a lot of soft cooked veggies (yams, carrots, celery, cabbage, squashes, ect.) I also eat oat bread, beans, oranges and apples (no skin) for fiber. For protein I lean towards chicken or fish. I also use Boost 20g protein and take 1/2 bottle 3/day. I take 1/4c prune juice mid-day with lunch and 2 tbs of magnesium Glycinate with 2 tbs magnesium citrate before bed each day. Then vitamin C 2000mg per day in powder form taken every morning with breakfast. I hope this helps.
I have been suffering from constipation for years due to my hypothyroidism. I take Colace twice a day and Myralax once z day. I follow the Mediterranean diet which consists if vegetables and fruits, legumes, nuts, chicken and fish. I don’t eat red meat because my GI told me it constipates me if I do. I drink 48+ ounces of plain water. All of that has helped me a lot. Every morning before getting up from bed, I massage carefully my abdomen starting from the Right lower quadrant, running my fingers up, then across my abdomen down to the left lower quadrant. When I do this I am massaging the colon right to the rectum. I saw this performed by a GI in a video. It has worked for me. Every person is different. Make sure you consult your doctor before doing all of this. Hope this helps and make you feel better.
My GI doctor prescribed lactulose.
