Treatment for burning feet and ankles

I can’t sleep at night due to burning feet and ankles. Has anyone found a product that you can rub onto these that takes away the discomfort and allows you to get to sleep

My husband has suffered with foot neuropathy, not related to diabetes since he had it YEARS before endocrinologist declared he had Type 2, with AIC always being below 6....Anyway, it has progressed to bouts of intensely painful, burning neuropathic pain which was so bad that he could not get any sleep. He learned online how application of Vick's helped many sufferers, so he tried it. Slathered on the stinky ointment and covered both feet with non binding socks. He found relief, ranging from lessening of pain to PAIN GONE. OVER TIME, THIS HAS NOT WORKED AS WELL AS AT ONSET. His endocrinologist (fairly new of about 3 yrs since the other one moved way far from our area) is receptive and open to anything that works for her patients, and is respectful of my husband's not wanting to take prescription medication (he has a laundry list of medications and supplements for several serious health issues). He does take ALA, and has done so for years, but definitely there are circumstances under which the ALA has not been as effective. However, he continues taking it since overall his neuropathic pain does seem to be held in check by the supplement. Rheumatoid arthritis and Raynaud's have roles in the pain that he deals with. Wears nonbinding, thick socks (with elements of wool) and took my advice of replacing shoes with 1/2 size larger, WIDE width, comfy-padded, and ample foot bed to allow for comfort. No leather, which don't allow for "stretching out" of toes and leather can create pressure over tops of feet.

Hi, I'm currently going through the same issue, but mine expands to the fingers as well.
Gabapentin doesn't agree with me, so I take Cymbalta; 120mg. per day, along with small amounts of Voltarin really helps me get to sleep. Even Hydrocodone doesn't really help with nerve issues.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Yes, we both have neuropathy in our hands but the feet cause the most serious issues. And on top of that, we both have Raynaud's syndrome, with mine being the most intense: fingers and nails can become deep blue-black and SO icy cold! I have Raynaud's in my feet also, and it's not unusual to have the toes (especially the big one) become deep blue, while the soles turn BLACK. Was scary the first time it happened. I wear thick, warm socks day and night. Hands: I have several pairs of mini gloves and wear them in the house no matter the season. It can be 90º outdoors and I can still experience the nasties of Raynaud's. I have other more serious medical issues (including osteoarthritis) that impact my body on a daily basis, so indeed I am so happy when I get reprieves.
Gabapentin is a huge no for both of us, and won't consider Cymbalta since drugs such as those affect me terribly: hallucinations, scary nightmares, brain fog and drugged feeling the day after taking it. (Absolute "no" to hydrocodone and anything related.) So what do we do? My husband can take Tylenol, I can't so I take an Alleve when things get serious. I envy you that your system does not react as mine does. Salves: rely on the Vick's when and as needed. We ride the wave and are so grateful for the periods with little to no neuropathic pain. 😌

I was feeling sorry for myself and then I read your post. I pray God will be merciful to you both. Only He has the power to end this suffering. I pray every night for healing .God Bless you both

Thank you.
And you right: you get to appreciate what you are going through when you learn about someone else having it more challenging, more intense. But we don't harbor on feeling sorry for ourselves. We help each other and raise the days when one of us or BOTH has things go a bit better. 😊

I know when my gabapentin is wearing off because feet and toes feel like they are on fire. To help with it I use Amish Origins deep penetrating pain relief cream. Also a great foot massage from the hubby helps. I hope you find relief.
