Prolia versus Tymlos for osteoporosis: Why choose one over the other?
My friend and I go to the same bone doctor . My friend was prescribed prolia and I was prescribed Tymlos to build bone .
What are the reasons to choose one over the other ?

I use my medication closer to 830 at night. I only used it probably up to 70mcg( I counted the clicks). I will have to say I feel pretty good today. I did not sleep much last night cause I had headaches and this morning as I said, I’m feeling pretty much myself so I’m gonna continue on the seven clicks for at least a week and then try the 80 again and see if there’s a change! our weather here in Western New York is from blizzard and cold and a couple feet of snow to rain tomorrow and high in the 50s so if I have headaches, I think it might have to do with the weather but we’ll see what happens. is there an advantage of using the Tymlos in the a.m. as opposed to using yet before I go to sleep?
Thank you again for the suggestion of lessening the meds🙏
There was a study on Forteo that suggested a better benefit in the morning. It was discussed here.

Tymlos is a similar med, but it wasn't studied, so who knows?
I will do some research , thank you. The pharmacist suggested the best time was pm. Now not sure !
@arlene1958
osteoclast numbers by CTX are higher at night. I wondered if that could make an advantage for morning injections or if being active is more advantageous for bone growth while the osteoblasts are being stimulated. The providing endocrinologist I see says that it doesn't make a bit of difference; it is only important to take the injection at the same time everyday. Post us everything you find out. Thanks
@arlene1958 it is okay to stay at 7 clicks if you never tolerate the full 80mcg. I had dramatic gains at 7mcg.
I switched to mornings and no longer woke up with a headache. Lots of people take it at night with the idea that going to sleep will avoid experiencing side effects, but I had an awful headache when I injected at night.
The study on Forteo mentioned above made me feel better about this change!
I took windyshores advice of taking Tymlos in the morning and then I get moving. I stretch really good and hydrate b4 the injection so I’m primed and ready to move. If I find myself sitting I do start to get a slight headache so I get up and get moving.
Everyone is different but I found this advice very helpful.
This is my second day of 70mcg and I’m feeling like my old self again. I’m still taking before bed. May switch to days still not sure
I'm not sure if my response got posted correctly in reply to your question, but I actually cannot recall side effects of first time on Forteo, as I was on pain meds and bedridden at the time. I do recall nausea for the first 3 months.
broken13, sometimes these posts take a direction of their own.
Was it really difficult to decide to take Forteo again after your previous experience. I haven't had any side effects with the drug, though my blood pressure drops. I haven't gotten dizzy or had brain fog. I kept thinking I must have been given the office demo pen. It took longer than the statistical readings for my P1NP to jump. But now everything looks right. I think Forteo gives me a little flash of energy, though the providing doctor dismisses the idea. I'd like to stay on Forteo and am trying to figure a way to do that with brief interludes. I'm taken with the mechanism of action of Forteo and the type of bone it builds.
