Incredible medicine for aging well: Walking!

Thanks, I needed those, plus I need many more. I'm slowly recovering from a hip replacement. Surgery was much delayed because the pain was disguised as L5-S1 & R SI, which was and is badly inflamed from arthritis. I allowed myself to stop walking because of the pain walking created, and finally this last spring, the R hip became unstable. X-rays and an MRI showed serious arthritis and no involvement of the bursa. It took several months to get the hip replaced in this town where there is a serious shortage of ortho surgeons. Now I'm 6 weeks post-surgery and find my muscles are sadly out of shape from their lack of use. No, I can't go out the door to walk because of the ice; it is simply too dangerous. But I could head back to the pool to the Mobility through Water, which now starts at 8 am - it used to be 9 or 9:30. Ugh. Or I can walk on the indoor track at the same fitness facility where the pool is located. For both of those I'd have to negotiate the icy sidewalks. Nonetheless, in the meantine I can ride the exercycle which sits in the living room, only a few steps from where I am now. That sounds like something I need to do now.

Hello @joanland, and all others in this great discussion about the benefits of walking. Walking outdoors is great exercise (and therapeutic). However, like @joanland, I also live in a climate where slippery sidewalks make up most of the winter weather. I have found some YouTube videos (at no cost), that provide for an indoor, at home, walking experience. Here is a link to some of these.

One of my favorites is found on the yes2next website, where a mother and daughter exercise together.
