Pros /Cons of Prolia versus Tymlos for osteoporosis

Posted by 2024tymloshelp @2024tymloshelp, 5 days ago

My friend and I go to the same bone doctor . My friend was prescribed prolia and I was prescribed Tymlos to build bone .
What are the reasons to choose one over the other ?

I can’t adjust the pen. The kind I have is already pre-set for the 80 mcg. Also, I do have a pituitary tumor which is quite large, so my endocrinologist advised me to call my Neuro surgeon to get in for an MRI and see if anything has changed.

@arlene1958 all Tymlos pens are adjustable. Move slowly to the 80mcg and hear the clicks. None of us have pens that are marked with any numbers other than 80mcg.

@windyshores , lidocaine helped a little bit in the past-5% patches by prescription. But for some reason not helping anymore. Tens unit helps more by distracting the mind. I bought one which operates via small remote control. I use 2-3 hours per day mostly in evening. I hate Tramadol. Not sure why it gives me headache and barely takes the edge off. I take 1 mg Clonazepam at night. I know that it is very bad mix, but doctor prescribed to me and I need to get some sleep. It would be nice be able to find something natural for sleeping at night . I hope that functional medicine can help somehow.I really don’t have where to go anymore. My endocrinologist categorically is against any steroid injections. I already did one and got no relief whatsoever.Nerve ablation didn’t work. There is some non opioid pain pill waiting for approval VX-5. Not approved yet. Another hope.Still not sure what to do after finishing Evenity and if Evenity contributes to so much pain. My friend is on Tymlos and has a lot of back pain as well. I know you liked this medication but everybody is different. I avoided all kind of pills almost all my life. And now I have to take so many different drugs. My body screams everyday -please stop.

@sunny65 it might be going to far to say I "liked" Tymos 🙂 I had side effects but they lasted only a few hours each time I injected and I had dramatic gains.

Have you tried a capsaicin patch? BioFreeze? For sleep I try to avoid clonazepam (I take 1/4 of the 0.5mg) and have been trying CBD and CBD/CBN. Melatonin in the past. I wake up at 3:30 am all the time!

I am sensitive to meds and foods and was amazed I could even tolerate a partial dose. Thank heavens! I tried to get on Forteo for years.

Thank you. Then, I should try the 6 clicks for a few days then move to 7 til I get to the 80mcg?

@arlene1958 you could try going down to 6 or 7 clicks on the adjustable pen, and over time move up. I was never able to take a full dose, staying at 7 clicks ultimately (6 clicks on a day I had something important to do) and still had a 20% gain in spine. For some reason I just could not tolerate the full dose even though it was only one click more than what I was doing,

Nausea with headaches sounds like migraine. Are you certain it comes from Tymlos? You could try skipping a day or two- my doctor always said that was okay. I did not have constipation from Tymlos.

Endocrinologist recommended a mri to check my pituitary tumor and see if something changed. Maybe something else going on.

@windyshores, I been taking 0.5 mg Clonazepam for a while and doctor increased to 1 mg. I know it is very bad with Tramadol and overall just bad for you. I afraid to add CBD in a mix. How much Melatonin you been taking? I bought 10 mg and want to try. I tried bio freeze and it helped a little bit but irritated skin and after that I wasn’t able to use my tens unit. I want to stop Clonazepam. I tried to go back to 0,5 mg and didn’t work. I still trying to cut back and just quit and see how many nights I can go without a sleep. Even with 1 mg Clonazepam I sleep from 11pm to 3:30-4:00 am. That’s why I want to find good functional medicine doctor because they usually have some natural supplements. I feel Evenity not working for me because I am not able exercise. Just walking on treadmill for a 10 minutes at the time take a brake and then another 10 minutes. Pain takes all my energy and everything what I used to do before this started. I am always dizzy like 5 days after Evenity shot. Is this happened to you ? Or to anybody in this group?

My side effects on Evenity happened when it peaked- after a week? I forget!

I don't know how long you have been taking clonazepam but stopping it can be very difficult. If you have been on 1mg every night for a few weeks, you need to taper very slowly and carefully. My family member has had to do that. I try to keep at 1/4 of the 0.5 and take it as infrequently as possible because at some point we need more, and it becomes hard to stop. I hope you can get some help with this. Some doctors say things like "cut in half for a week." Um, I don't think so. A functional medicine doctor might be a good resource.

10mg of melatonin is a pretty high dose but since you are on clonazepam maybe you need that. I would maybe not take it until you see a functional medicine doctor. I'll think of you when I wake at 3:30am!!!

HI @arlene1958 you could try that, yes. See if it helps!! Let us know!

As I wrote, I never really got to 80mcg but still went from severe to borderline osteoporosis.

Sleep is crucial! This is when your body heals. I have gotten a number of my friends on 1:1 CBD/THC edibles taken 1 hr. prior to sleep. The CBD counteracts the hangover feeling of the THC. I take 5mg and 3mg melatonin. The brand I like is Wyld but there are many brands. You may need less. I have taken this dose since 2017 and was diagnosed with cancer at that time. I know this helped me heal as I did not sleep for 3 yrs prior. No side effects just lovely sleep. Literally 5 of my friends tried it and have never looked back. Works like a charm for us without the bad side effects that accompany OTC or prescription sleep drugs. I found out the hard way how crucial sleep is to healing. If you are not sleeping you should address that 1st and foremost.
Also magnesium is helpful to take at night.
