Ultrasensitive PSA vs. Standard PSA Readings

@michaelcharles

I do not think it makes a difference which PSA test is used.
I had RP; followed immediately (90 days) with regular PSA tests .19 (30 day repeat .18); followed by Salvage Radiation Treatment to whole pelvic region and pelvic lymph nodes together with 4 mos ADT.
6 - 18 mos later RO ordered uPSA testing "undetectable" < .02 thru Quest Diagnostics. A Salvage Treatment buddy has been tested post tx using the regular PSA test at < .1
My sense is the uPSA just allows a more precise monitoring.
So good thoughts for you and your upcoming Salvage Treatment.

I would agree that it ultimately makes no difference. However, the ultra sensitive test gives you a heads up if something is happening that will probably require further treatment. Post RP, my first 2 readings were undetectable < .008. However, as my PSA slowly began to rise my urologist referred me to an oncologist when it was approaching .100. To me the ultra sensitive PSA is like an early warning system and allows you to begin researching the next stage of your journey. This led to a PSMA-PET scan in January 2022, followed by two injections of Zoladex and salvage radiation in the summer of 2022. Post radiation my quarterly PSA continues to read < .008.

How was your experience with the process of getting the salvage treatment? Thanks
