I should have thought of thrush when I first saw your post yesterday, duh! There is also a mouth rinse, with Nystatin in it, used for thrush. When I was on the Big 3 antibiotics plus inhalers, thrush kept coming back, so I had a bottle of it. I'm pretty sure it was a prescription I got from the dentist.

I know thrush can be a side effect of antibiotics because that is what happened to me in the mid eighties after 24/7 liquid antibiotics for Legionella and Mycoplasma Pneumonias of which I had at the same time. The problem I was having wasn't diagnosed soon enough and became rampant throughout my system.
After a good few months of it being so bad and my having multiple problems, not knowing what could happen after having had the antibiotics and not knowing what foods to stay away from (high carbohydrates/sugar etc.) I went to an Infection Disease Doctor who specializes in HIV/Aids because I know that illness can bring on Thrush/Candida. When I questioned the possibility of me having Candida she told me only HIV/AIDs patients often develop Candida. Well thank goodness I finally went back to my primary doctor who also somewhat practiced alternative medicine. He immediately looked at me and judged from my face, eyes, tongue etc. that I did have Candida and put me on Nystatin. It cleared the multiple problems I was experiencing.....chronic fatigue, joint pain, sensitive to the touch etc. etc.
So, this is one of my reasons why I am so hesitant about start a long journey with antibiotics. Yes I do have a better understanding now... I have eaten healthier ever since then and also have known about the need to take probiotics along with limiting certain foods, especially when on antibiotics.
So much to know and thank you Sue for all you do know and share with us.
