Have you ever tried imitrex (migraine med). I had very strange symptoms, and turned out to be migraine. A clever neurologist suggested that I try imitrex, and it worked like a miracle for me (also for my sister). For years my sister was told her headaches were not migraine, but alas, they were migraine and disappeared with imitrex, also.

Recently, I was hospitalized for one week due to a severe and refractory Migraine. Headache. Initially, I suspected I was having a stroke. I have experienced Migraines for several years and had been successfully managed with a monthly injection of Ajovy. This medication had reduced the frequency of my Migraines from three to four per week to three to four per month. However, I am now experiencing an increase in their frequency.

During my hospitalization, I also received antibiotic for a severe urinary tract infection. The medical professionals at the hospital suggested that the UTI may have contributed to the severe Mgraine attack. While I initially doubted this possibility, I have come to accept it after hearing it repeatedly, particularly from the neurologist.

Upon discharge, I was advised to continue taking Ajovy and to use Nurtec and/or Imitrex as rescue medications. These medications are to be taken one or the other, not both simultaneously, at the onset of a Migraine. Additionally, I was prescribed Depakote, which I discontinued a week after my discharge due to adverse effects.

I have found that IMITREX is more effective in relieving my headaches, typically within half an hour. Nurtec has not proven to be as effective for me.

I would be interested in hearing from others who have experienced severe migraines that necessitated a seven-day hospitalization.
