Nasal congestion with hiatal hernia?

Posted by collage @collage, Apr 26, 2021

Is anyone experiencing nasal congestion, along with nausea, indigestion, and lung nodules with hiatal hernia? I am thinking the nasal congestion may be related to the lung nodules (mucus, infection?)

ENT told me about LPR. My heartburn and swallowing issues have become worse.
Upper GI, Endoscopy, Bravo test. Severe Gerd and Esophagitis. The recommendation is Fundoplication. Meds are barely touching the issues

Hi @collage ,
I do have all the same issues, plus a few more. Mine is more post nasal drip than congestion. My hiatal hernia is small but it still causes me problems and GERD. I have a lot of nausea & some stomach pain and a VERY limited diet because of it. The GERD contributed to (or caused, they don't know) my lung nodules which are bronchiectasis. I also have an NTM (nontuberculosis mycobacterial) infection in my lungs because of the bronchiectasis. It sounds like you are doing all the right things to control it before you scope. Has anyone told you what your lung nodules are? Good luck with your tests!

is the nausea and stomach pain symptom of gerd or of the hernia?

Good luck with the surgery if you go forward with it. Meantime, have you done a low-acid, whole food diet? If not, might want to try it while deciding and waiting for the surgery. Dr. Aviv or Dr. Kaufman have recipes, and there is a FB group Acidwatcher Diet Warriors Support Group that has a ton of recipes too. You have to be patient if doing the diet, relief comes in general in 30 days, tho some take longer.

That's a good question that no one has answered for me!

That's where I was. Ended up with a 270 wrap and hernia repair. I had motility issues thus the 270 instead of the 360 wrap. Two months later, I'm eating light meals but have major gas issues and small bowel movements. I still have heartburn in the mornings despite my bed being elevated. Taking Nexium at night. I will say that I do not have heartburn 24/7 any longer but am wondering why I have it at all. Second follow up with the Dr. Next week.
