I’ve read numerous books, the latest one Blind Spots, that actually lay out the whole statin myth. EVERYONE is automatically put on statins. Sometimes a high Cholesterol number means NOTHING. Sometimes it does mean something, but you have to go way beyond the numbers. My dad had heart disease and died of a heart attack at age 82. I am 77. I do a lot more for heart health than he did. I think I have the gene, I’m guessing, i haven’t been tested. I eat heart healthy fresh organic foods, do yoga, get between 8,000-12,000 steps a day, monitor my sleeping using meditation, and I’m content. If I drop dead at 82 living my best life I am ok with that. I sure don’t want to live to 90 bed ridden and in chronic pain from cholesterol drugs. I am not advocating either way, just go beyond the numbers.

HomeAgain: I'm betting that your lifestyle is far different from that of your dad. My mother died at age 34 of heart failure, similar age to her sister, and my father passed at age 70, also heart related. I've seen studies saying lifestyle beats genes 75% or more, which is where I focus at age 69. I am on the 3 drug regimen (statin/ezitimibe/Repatha) with no side effects and amazing blood results. Along with my diet and exercise, I'm OK with whatever happens.
