What medications work for you?

Posted by westd @westd, May 3, 2020

Hello, wondering what medications work for you in regards to TBI’s? I take klonopin helps with dizziness, gathering thoughts, & able to speak a bit clearer. Not trying to jumble my words out. Also helps with the social aspect of not feeling as sharp as others...

This is an area where I am really able to count my blessings. When I left the hospital, they sent me home with a bottle of liquid pain medicine.(My mouth was wired shut) I never opened it. I took a few Tylenol to help me sleep on occasion and a few Ibuprofen for the 3 or 4 headaches I've had since my mishap. my worst problem is, lately I've been gardening and landscaping. When I over do it, I'm sore. Tylenol helps me get to sleep.
This may be depressing to some of you who aren't as fortunate, but on the plus side, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Our bodies and especially our brains have an amazing ability to mend themselves.

I really would like to try klonopin. Westd, I have the same problems, but am taking multiple depression drugs, and the last I heard, two of my doctors were going to conferr about the possibility of adding it to my meds. And along came CV19, and I’ve heard nothing since.

Yeah CV-19 has put us all on “hold”. I went to doctors to sign insurance information the place was empty, feeling like one of those post apocalyptic movies is going on its different to see people wearing masks, stockless grocery stores, and I think I need to stop by watching tv for a while!

I, too, am fascinated by the weirdness of empty things that were formerly busy. The parking lot at my local mall vacant- day after day. The lack of traffic and traffic sounds. No airplanes intruding on phone calls. It goes on and on. One day, I’ll be able to get those 2 doctors talking.

Hi, @westd - I wanted to check back in with you to see if you have any updates on what medications have worked for you in regards to traumatic brain injury (TBI) since you posted a question about this topic.

I also thought @lolabelle1 @msa1396 @badbenny @m2murphy256 @kayabbott @lanieg might have input on what medications they may have taken that have helped with TBI and related symptoms. @hevykevy, you mentioned acetaminophen (Tylenol) some time back in this discussion. Do you still use it? Are there any other medications that have been useful to you?

westd Are you still taking clonazepam (Klonopin)? Are there additional medications that have helped you with TBI symptoms?

The only meds I use is Tylenol at night. This combined with my evening prayers and the Alexa sleep app, allow me to clear my mind and relax into sleep.

I didn't use any medicines following my TBI 31 years ago. I did some meditation, took naps when tired, and tried to destress as much as I could. While I was writing my thesis at home I played "An affair to remember" to block out noise from neighbors. The movie is interesting in the beginning and end, so the middle was mostly grey noise (back before there were grey noise machines and such). Lots of reading games, and otherwise engaging one's brain are good for rewiring.

This is wow for some people having or had a TBI… I get drugs 3 times a day and stopping my anti-seizure. Did I lose my memory as a 50s year old? Yes, that happened 12 yearsago from an accident. I lost 80% of my memory and=d understanding.

Oppps… no pain within me - thankfully
