Anyone have experience with spinal decompression

Posted by ichbindck @ichbindck, Dec 6 7:45am

I have tried just about everything with constant back pain from spinal stenosis. A spinal decompression machine is designed to
stretch and lengthen the spine, reversing the effects of natural aging and spine compression. Has anyone tried this and what are results?

I am doing this at a medical facility under direction of a doctor and a physical therapist on a commercial machine. Theory is this non-invasive, non-surgical pain relief therapy gently separates discs, creating negative pressure, which draws in water, oxygen, and nutrients.

I did spinal decompression for a bad back and neck injury for 5 months at 4x a week. It really did help my back and prevented me from needing back surgery. My neck unfortunately was to damaged. Neck surgery failed also. So have bad chronic pain in my neck. But I do recommend it for the back. Good luck to you!!

I’ve not seen this offered through a doc and PT. Is there anyone in the SF Bay Area who has done this with a positive outcome? It really sounds great. I’d probably only do it from recommendations from folks who have had it done, thanks!!

I am currently trying at at the Wellness Institute in Alamo. Would say back feels better…trying to combat neuropathy but so far no relief. I have done it once a week for 10 weeks.

Feels good. But doesn’t work.

My understanding is it only offers temporary relief. Once the therapy stops, the pain returns. It is a money maker for sure. Stretching and strengthening core muscles should have a better impact and less costly/time consuming.

Felt good but did not help after 1 year. Its nice and if you like it buy a little machine or weights and set yourself up at home. It was useless to effectively make change. but here's a suggestion: find a GREAT MFR therapist! (there's a section here you can read). If the reverse decompression helped you will want to try the MFR. Find someone who is good for you. there are many types - mine is self-taught. The guy who formally learned a specific method is ineffective. Another gal was not strong enough. It should be a little painful (in my case a LOT!) but it is so worthwhile. I go twice a month and it will take years to get it all to stick but we are making progress after 6 months. I've had many surgeries but the pain doesn't resolve on some because it is not at the bone level - it is the myofascial problem. Eventually, like most of us here, stretching is mandatory after you've done the whole PT route, surgeries and doctors. IF you don't have the muscle strength to hold your spine in place after decompression treatment it won't help. (ergo the MFR!) good luck.

I have suffered from Pudendal Nureliga for 10 years, all the time going progressively worse. I am being treted at Southwestern now. I have had repeated nerve blocks ,physical therapy , massage, medication , two Oblation's . Nothing has helped, I am in excuratiang pain and living life in bed, It is basicaly no life .A skilled plastic surgeon
confirmed it as Alcock Syndrome. I have no doubt he is an excellent surgeon. I however am searching for a surgeon that is an expert in Pudendal Surgery and decompression of the nerve that is entraped . Recommendations of positive results would help ! Please recommend a surgeon that specializes in this horrible issue causing unbearable pain.

I hope it works for you. Glad to see that an MD and PT are overseeing it. I saw a company that offered spinal decompression. Disc Centers of America. I went and listened to their spiel. The local office was run by a chiropractor. Something like 30 visits of decompression on their "special" machines. Also recommended buying their "special" supplements designed to help reconstitute ailing discs. Only $10K, not including supplements. I was in so much pain and had not had any medical help that I was willing to try anything. He looked at my MRI and didn't like it. Sent me to a local imaging center for a CT scan. They did him a "favor" by seeing me immediately for "cash only". When we returned to his office, he showed me all the bad discs in my back and how close I was to a bunch of ruptures, etc. I signed up and went home anxiously waiting to start the program. Then I started thinking more clearly. There were so many red flags, I couldn't believe that I fell for this gimmick. I called back and cancelled. Always do you research before falling for these types of scams.
